Changing the compressor in an LG refrigerator, regardless of its model, must be done in accordance with the technology and in stages. To implement each stage, you will need knowledge and special equipment. The replacement procedure is as follows.
Dismantling the faulty compressor. Using a pipe cutter or a gas torch, cut off both tubes near the motor at a distance of 10-30 mm from it. After that, unscrew the screws by which the motor is attached to the refrigerator body.
Removing the filter-drier. The filter-drier absorbs moisture from the refrigerant and protects the capillary tube from possible clogging by solid particles. It is also cut with a pipe cutter. It must be changed whenever the system is opened and freon comes out of it.
Soldering into a new motor of the Schrader valve. This is a service valve. It is necessary so that after the completion of the work on replacing the compressor it is possible to perform vacuuming and filling the refrigerator with freon.
Installing a new engine by user manual. The new motor-compressor is mounted in the same place where the old engine used to be. It is secured with fasteners, and the tubes are soldered. If the dimensions of the new compressor are not the same as the old one, new holes are drilled for the mounting bolts.
Installing a new filter-dryer. The old filter-dryer is not used, as it may contain moisture, a new one is installed instead. A capillary tube is soldered into it on one side, and a condenser tube on the other.
System pressure testing. The cooling circuit is checked for leaks. To do this, the technician pumps nitrogen into the system and monitors the gas pressure. If it does not drop within a few minutes, then the system is fine. Otherwise, the problem area is identified and the leaks are restored to prevent freon leaks.
Evacuation of the cooling system. At this stage, air, nitrogen and residual moisture are removed from the system using a special pump.
Refueling the refrigerator with refrigerant. It is carried out using a filling station on scales through the Schroeder valve. The manufacturer indicates the amount of gas on the plate on the refrigerator body. Then the service valve is pinched, the filling station is disconnected from it, and the end is sealed. After this, the operation of the LG refrigerator is checked.
There are several signs that can indicate that the compressor has failed and requires repair. Here they are.
The motor-compressor turns on and turns off after a few seconds. The motor heats up a lot, the starting relay reacts to this by turning off the compressor. This situation is typical for short circuits in the starting or working windings.
The compressor does not turn on at all. No sounds of the engine are heard, but the light in the refrigeration chamber is on. This is typical for a break in the working or starting windings of the motor.
The compressor does not turn off, but the LG refrigerator does not freeze. A loud hum is heard when the engine is running. The problem occurs when the compressor is jammed, as well as when the inlet or outlet valve is deformed.
Most modern LG refrigerators are equipped with an inverter compressor. According LG manuals it is economical in terms of energy costs, but more expensive. When it breaks down, its replacement significantly "hits the wallet". We understand this situation and, at the customer's request, we can replace the inverter compressor with a conventional one. This service is more labor-intensive, but due to the significant difference in cost between a conventional motor and an inverter one, it is possible to save.
Replacing the inverter compressor of an LG refrigerator with a conventional one should only be entrusted to an experienced technician, since the service requires knowledge of some nuances:
