Winnie the Pooh & the Honey Tree was the first of four animated Disney featurettes based on the works of A. A. Milne. Sterling Holloway is ideally cast as the voice of the whimsical pooh bear, while the voice of his human chum Christopher Robin is provided by Bruce Reithermann, son of Disney director Wolfgang Reithermann. Most of the characters-Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore, Owl and Piglet-are taken from the original story, and designed along the same lines of E.H. Shepard's classic illustrations. A new character named Gopher has been added to provide a dash of American aggressiveness to the genteel British proceedings. Released February 4, 1966, Winnie the Pooh & The Honey Tree received an Academy Award nomination.
