Hal Higdon Training Programs: Walkers Program
The following 12-week walking program assumes you currently have the ability to walk for 30 minutes, three to four times a week. If that seems difficult, consider going a shorter distance--or take more time to develop an endurance base. And if you are over age 35, you probably should see your doctor for a physical examination. But assuming no major problems, most healthy people can train themselves to walk and finish a half marathon.

Correct Race Walking Technique And Judging
The key to fast and legal race walking is correct technique and a lot of continual effort. The hamstring and hip muscles are the prime movers of the race walker. The combination of straight-leg pulling and hip-roll pushing allow the walker to achieve and maintain a good stride length and the speeds needed for high levels of fitness and racing success on road and track.

Racewalking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Racewalking, or race walking, is a long-distance discipline within the sport of athletics. Although it is a foot race, it is different from running in that one foot must appear to be in contact with the ground at all times. This is assessed by race judges, making it the most subjective of the disciplines in athletics. Typically held on either roads or on running tracks, common distances vary from 3000 metres (1.8 mi) up to 100 kilometres (62.1 mi).
