For just about as long as there has been a border with the United States, some Canadians have believed that Americans covet their country and the resources it contains. A few conspiracy subscribers still believe Washington harbors ambitions about northern expansion similar to those that provoked the first armed incursion into what is now Canada in the 18th century. And a certain type of Canadian is sure that free-trade agreements are a plot to make Canada a commercial colony of the United States.

Established in 1881, the American Water Works Association is the largest nonprofit, scientific and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water, the world's most important resource. With approximately 50,000 members, AWWA provides solutions to improve public health, protect the environment, strengthen the economy and enhance our quality of life.

America's Waterway Watch is a public outreach program encouraging participants to simply report suspicious activity to the Coast Guard and/or other law enforcement agencies. Unlike some Neighborhood Watch programs, for example, you are not formally joining an organization there are no meetings, membership cards or membership requirements and you do not become an agent of the Coast Guard or any other law enforcement agency.

A waterway is any navigable body of water. A shipping route consists of one or several waterways. Waterways can include rivers, lakes, seas, oceans, and canals.

In International Law, international waterways are straits, canals, and rivers that connect two areas of the high seas or enable ocean shipping to reach interior ports on international seas, gulfs, or lakes that otherwise would be land-locked.

The terms international waters or trans-boundary waters apply where any of the following types of bodies of water transcend international boundaries: oceans, large marine ecosystems, enclosed or semi-enclosed regional seas and estuaries, rivers, lakes, groundwater systems, and wetlands.
