The team currently competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a full member of the Southland Conference. Houston Baptist's first football team was fielded in 2013 for a seven (7) game developmental season. The Huskies finished 2013 with a 3-4 record. Since the 2013 games were played during a developmental season, records and statistics are considered unofficial. The team played most of its home games at Crusader Stadium in Houston, Texas that season with one home game being played at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Incarnate Word
The Incarnate Word Cardinals football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of the Incarnate Word located in San Antonio, Texas. The team originally competed in NCAA Division II as members of the Lone Star Conference. In 2013, the school moved to Division I. For the 2013 season Incarnate Word competed as a member of the Southland Conference for all sports except football. Football competed with an 11-game schedule as an Independent.
