What Defines the Horde? - World of Warcraft Forums
Anyone have any idea of what the soul or definition of the Horde is (given the things the Horde does in BFA)? I've loved the faction for a long time and I'm legitimately saddened (feel free to call me a loser, nerd, mentally unwell, too invested in a fictional world, etc.) by a lot of it. And I don't want Sylvanas to be a raidboss/Garrosh 2.0. Thrall to Daelin Proudmoore: “This is not the Horde you remember, old man. We have no interest in conquest or murder. We have paid for our sins of our forebears in blood.” Thrall to Horde player character: “All members of the Horde are equal in my eyes. We have all suffered many burdens, and if it were not for wisdom and honor, then we would be no better than the Scourge or my people while our blood was tainted by the demon Mannoroth. It is your duty to aid the Horde and to defend our way of life. But it is also your duty to know when quarter and compassion should be given to friend and foe alike. Understand this well. This is the new Horde, not some demon-spawned army who lack freewill.” Quest: A New Fate: “The proud nations of the Horde are loosely joined in an alliance of convenience against a hostile world that would see them destroyed. Focused, ferocious and sometimes monstrous, the Horde values strength and honor, but struggles to keep aggression in check. Join the Horde and fight to build a world where their people can live free.” Garrosh Hellscream to Ji Firepaw: “You've made a wise decision to join my Horde. There are some that would call us barbarians... the ‘mongrel races’ of Azeroth. They are ignorant, and blind to reality. Look around you, pandaren.” Wrathion to Horde player character: “What IS the Horde? Is it an instrument of vengeance, hellbent to carve out a future for its people? Is it a refuge for those who need shelter, a commonwealth of the downtrodden, built for mutual support? Or is it an alliance of convenience, a confederacy of unlikely partners free to pursue their own agendas? This is my question to you: What is the SOUL of the Horde?” [later conversation] “Do you recall our earlier conversation?...I asked you: Who is the soul of the Horde? Your efforts on Pandaria's southern shores and elsewhere have given me my answer. YOU are the soul of the Horde.” Vol’jin to Alliance player character: “Ya wouldn't understand. What's de Horde ta ya? Diseased? Alien? Betrayers? Demon-blooded? Beasts? I know what ya say 'bout us. I'll tell ya what de Horde is. De Horde dat me an' Thrall built. It be a family. When de whole world try ta put us down, de family come an' pick us back up.” Vol’jin to Horde player character: "This world don't give us nothing. It be our lot to suffer... and our duty to fight back. This Horde be our family! We don't always see eye-to-eye. We come to blows before. But when we work together - ah - there's nothing this Horde can't do." ?Battle for Azeroth devs?: The Horde are...bad guys for the Alliance to fight? They exist to occasionally get out of hand and commit atrocities so the Alliance has a reason to stomp them?
