I believe, without a doubt, that all ages of students and adults love to be read to!! It must be a great story that deals with our human condition and our response to the relationship, the conflict, the struggle, and the resolve within that story. The delivery of a well-read story is critical. This is indeed how we light the fire for the passion and delight of reading!! Here are some of my favorite read aloud: "The Sneetches" by Dr. Seuss; all ages, young to old; theme: prejudice is wrong! Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester; all ages; Theme: Being different is good! It can even save the day! Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox; all ages; Theme: what is memory? How does one find it again? I use this read aloud as a springboard to writing our own biographies. The Dot by Peter Reynolds; for all ages; Theme: discovering one's artistic and creative talent with a little encouragement from others. Wonder by Racquel J. Palacio: upper elementary/middle/high/adult. How we treat a person with a deformity or disability; excellent novel for teaching "point of view". 14 Cows For America by Carmen Agra Deedy w/ Wilson Kimeli Naiyomah; powerful; moving; inspirational!! Older elementary and up; to be read around September 11th
