Shubert Theatre | Shubert Organization
The Shubert Theatre had its genesis in the New Theatre, an “art” playhouse located on Central Park West that was devoted to serious repertory drama. Although the project was a critical and commercial flop, the New Theatre Group, which included Lee Shubert, leased a plot of land between 44th and 45th street to construct a new venue. The plan was abandoned, but Lee Shubert and Winthrop Ames, a former New Theatre partner, acquired a lease for the site, and built two adjoining playhouses there. Lee and J.J. operated the larger of the two auditoriums, which they named the Sam S. Shubert Memorial Theatre to commemorate their brother, who had died in May 1905. Ames managed the smaller Booth Theatre.

Sam S. Shubert Theatre | Playbill
Producing team Lee and J.J. Shubert opened the Shubert Theatre, named for their late brother Sam, in 1913. Its rear pathway, intended as a fire exit and private loading zone, became known as Shubert Alley, a legendary Broadway thoroughfare and gathering place. The Shubert made history from 1975 to 1990 with A Chorus Line, whose 6,137-performance run became the longest-running Broadway show of the time.

Shubert Theatre (New York City) - Wikipedia
The Shubert Theatre is a Broadway theatre located at 225 West 44th Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.
Designed by architect Henry Beaumont Herts, it was named after Sam S. Shubert, the second oldest of the three brothers of the theatrical producing family. It shares a Venetian Renaissance facade with the adjoining Booth Theatre, which was constructed at the same time, although the two have distinctly different interiors. The two theatres are connected by a private road/sidewalk, "Shubert Alley". It opened on October 2,1913 with Hamlet, starring Sir John. Forbes-Robertson followed by the October 21, 1913 opening of the George Bernard Shaw play, Caesar and Cleopatra, staged by the Forbes-Robertson Repertory Company. [1]
