Tenor John Easterlin has rapidly established himself as one of international opera’s most exciting performers. A compelling stage actor, his recent engagements include creating two iconic American roles: Andy Warhol in the World Premiere of the Philip Glass opera The Perfect American at the Teatro Real, Madrid, and the English National Opera (ENO), London; and Larry King in the U.S. premiere of the Anthony Turnage opera Anna Nicole, for the New York City Opera in conjunction with the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival. For the Metropolitan Opera he won critical acclaim for his performances as the Scrivener in Khovanschchina, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, Prince Nilsky in The Gambler, the Tanzmeister in Ariadne auf Naxos, the Young Servant in Elektra, and the Hunchback Brother in Die Frau ohne Schatten.

American tenor John Easterlin made his Royal Opera debut in 2010 singing Prince Nilsky (The Gambler), and returned in 2013 to sing Andres (Wozzeck). Easterlin began his career in advertising. He first sang in musical theatre before switching to opera, and now appears regularly at leading opera houses in the USA. For the Metropolitan Opera, New York, his roles have included Scrivener (Khovanshchina), Fourth Jew (Salome), Prince Nilsky and Major-Domo (Der Rosenkavalier). Engagements elsewhere include the Magician (The Consul) for Glimmerglass Opera, Hunchback Brother (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte) and Spoletto (Tosca) for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Jack O’Brien (Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny) for Los Angeles Opera and Dancing Master (Ariadne auf Naxos) for the Canadian Opera Company. He made an acclaimed debut as Herod (Salome) for Vienna State Opera in 2009, with other European performances including Misail (Boris Godunov), Jack O’Brien, Shabby Peasant (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) and Andy Warhol (The Perfect American) for Teatro Real, Madrid, Andy Warhol for English National Opera and Squeak (Billy Budd) and Hunchback Brother for Paris Opéra.
