Maine by Foot | Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary, Freeport
This preserve offers a nice walk through 140 acres of woods, an overgrown orchard, small fields and, briefly, alongside a pretty creek. 14 things to do in Freeport besides shop - Boston.com
6. SEEK SANCTUARY
Just one mile from downtown Freeport, Mast Landing Audubon Sanctuary is a reprieve from the crowds. Situated at the head of the tide on the Harraseeket River estuary, the 140-acre preserve has 3Æ miles of signed trails weaving through an apple orchard, across fields, and through pines and hemlocks. To find it, take Bow Street (across from L.L. Bean) one mile to Upper Mast Landing Road and turn left. The sanctuary is a quarter mile on the left.
