Skating Ribbon - Maggie Daley Park - Maggie Daley Park
In the heart of downtown Chicago, with the City’s skyline as a backdrop, a ribbon of ice winds through a rolling landscape providing an ice skating experience unlike any other. The skating ribbon is dramatically different from typical civic ice rinks, creating a multisensory activity that is integrated into the landscape. Skaters can experience “alpine in the city” as they lace up their ice skates and follow a path twice the length of a lap around a traditional skating rink. Complementing the ribbon are places to enjoy a cup of hot chocolate and rent skates. In the summertime, the Ribbon can be used to watch climbers on the climbing wall.

Maggie Daley Park - Wikipedia
Maggie Daley Park is a 20-acre (81,000 m2) public park in the Loop community area of Chicago. It is near the Lake Michigan shoreline in northeastern Grant Park where Daley Bicentennial Plaza previously stood.[1][2] Maggie Daley Park, like its predecessor, is connected to Millennium Park by the BP Pedestrian Bridge.[3] Designed by landscape architect Michael Van Valkenburgh, the park had its ceremonial ribbon cutting on December 13, 2014, and is named for Maggie Daley, the former first lady of the city who died in 2011.[4][5] The park was almost entirely remade with multiple new features including a new field house, an ice skating ribbon, climbing walls, landscaping and children's playground. One element incorporated form the earlier park design is a garden, which honors cancer survivors and tennis courts were moved to a new area. This section of Grant Park is bounded by Randolph Street, Monroe, Columbus and Lake Shore Drives.[6] The park, which cost $60 million, and included rebuilding an underground parking lot, began construction two years before the 2014 opening.[3]
