Not quite the hidden-in-plain-sight queerness of the straight-laced Rock Hudson romcoms of yesteryear, this film still aches with Ellen's apparent lack of interest in men. At no point does she sell her interest in Bill Pullman's character, even early on. Her awkward demeanor comes off as completely detached from the moment during her meet-cute, and it never goes further than that.
