ENTER SANDMAN - Chicago Tribune
For the first time, a comic book has won the 1991 World Fantasy Award for best short fiction, a prestigious, judged award that more often goes to short stories or novellas. The award, given by a panel of science-fiction, fantasy and horror writers, editors and critics, went to an issue of ``The Sandman,`` a monthly comic book series from DC Comics aimed at readers 16 and older. Although it doesn`t contain the profanity or sexually explicit material of some adult comics, themes of death, dreaming and fantasy gods propel ``Sandman.`` The humor is dark, and there is occasional violence and references to black magic.

The Sandman (Vol. 3): Dream Country by Neil Gaiman | Fantasy Literature: Fantasy and Science Fiction Book and Audiobook Reviews
Neil Gaiman’s Dream Country, the third volume in his THE SANDMAN series, is a collection of four stand-alone stories. I think it makes for a great introduction to the world of Sandman because each story is incredibly different from the one that precedes it.

The Sandman Reread: Dream Country
The third Sandman collection, Dream Country, is the shortest of them all, pulling together only four issues of the series, all of which tell self-contained stories set in Neil Gaiman’s darkly fantastical universe.
