Hotel de Russie (Rocco Forte Hotels) - Condé Nast Traveler
If you make one wish at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, it should probably be to end up at the Hotel de Russie. Set almost smack-dab in the center of the Eternal City, it’s flanked by first-rate attractions like the Piazza del Popolo—check out the obelisk—and the lush, lovely Villa Borghese gardens and estate (pro-tip: the pincio, or pincian hill of ancient Rome, is at the south of the park and has some of the best views of this seven-hilled city). The hotel rises from the cobblestone streets like a little Mediterranean oasis, its flushed façade framed by pale blue shutters. In the elegant, stripped-back rooms, roman mosaics line the showers, and ornate headboards grace the beds. The voices of the animated, amiable wait staff at the Jardin de Russie restaurant echo off the terracotta tiles of the formal dining room. If you prefer to dine al fresco, turn inward—literally—to the Stravinskij Bar, in the hotel courtyard. With coral-colored walls, it sits under a slew of prettily-stacked, albeit tiny, terraces, and if you happened to look down from one of them, the tables’ pointed white umbrellas might look like a flock of birds. To be honest, we wouldn't be surprised if you saw some of those here, though hopefully not the myriad of seagulls that fly above the rooftops.
