Worlds

World 1 is the first world of Super Mario 3D World. It is a small grassy island with blocky bushes and flowers that lies southwest of World 2 and World 3, south of World 4, east of World 5, and below World 6, World 7, and World 8. ? Blocks and Coins are scattered throughout the map.

It is a desert themed island and has sand blocks around the map. It lies northeast of World 1, south of World 3, southeast of World 4, east of World 5, and below World 6, World 7, and World 8.

World 3 is the third world of Super Mario 3D World. It's a snow-themed island surrounded with ice blocks. It lies southwest of World 1, south of World 2, west of World 4, east of World 5, and below World 6, World Castle, and World Bowser. The world contains seven standard courses, a Captain Toad course, a Sprixie House, a Castle, and a Boss Arena. After the player have beaten Pom Pom, the blue Sprixie Princess will create a Clear Pipe to World 3-B, and clearing that level unlocks World 4.

World 4 is the fourth world of Super Mario 3D World. It is a canyon and mountain-like island. It contains five standard courses, two Enemy Blockades, a Mystery House, a Sprixie House, and a Castle. After beating the boss, Boss Brolder, the orange Sprixie Princess will create a Clear Pipe to World 5.

World 5 is the fifth world of Super Mario 3D World. It is a purple, beach-like island. It contains seven standard courses, two Enemy Blockades, a Captain Toad course, a Castle, a Sprixie House, a Warp Pipe to World 1, a Warp Pipe to Coin Express, and a warp pipe to World 3-B. After defeating the boss, King Ka-Thunk, the purple Sprixie Princess will create a Clear Pipe to World 6.

World 6 is the sixth world of Super Mario 3D World. It is a group of clouds floating near World 5 and World 1; in fact, World 5 is still visible near the start of the world. However, only the Castle and Enemy Blockade are shown. ? Blocks and Coins are scattered throughout the map. It contains seven standard courses, two Enemy Blockades, a Toad House, a Slot Machine, a Mystery House, a Castle, a Boss Arena, and a Sprixie House. After completing the castle, the cyan Sprixie Princess will create a Clear Pipe to Motley Bossblob's Big Battle, and completing that level unlocks World Castle.

World Castle (called Castle World on Miiverse) is the seventh world of Super Mario 3D World. It is a large lava filled world, taking place in Bowser's Castle, above every preceding world, but below World Bowser, with ? Blocks and Coins are scattered throughout the map. It contains seven standard courses, three Enemy Blockades, a Toad House, a Captain Toad course, a Castle, and a Sprixie House. After completing the castle, Bowser will kidnap the Sprixie Princesses, including the just-rescued red one, and will use their power to create a sparkling Clear Pipe to World Bowser.

Unlike most endgame Mario worlds (including World Castle, which came immediately before it), World Bowser is not a volcanic stage; instead, it is a large amusement park built in the likeness of Bowser, with a volcano in the back, and it sits high above every preceding world.

World Star (called Star World on Miiverse) is the first special world and the ninth world in Super Mario 3D World. It takes place above the Sprixie Kingdom, and can only be accessed by completing World Bowser, and taking the Rocket in World 1 which was built by the Sprixie Princesses.

World Mushroom (called Mushroom World on Miiverse) is the second special world and the tenth world in Super Mario 3D World. It sits adjacent to World Flower and consists of remixes of previous courses; they are harder versions which may be set at a different time of day, be a speed run course or have additional objectives. It is unlocked after clearing Cosmic Cannon Cluster in World Star. This world contains seven regular courses and one Mystery House. It is the first world not to contain any stamps within its levels.

World Flower (called Flower World on Miiverse) is the third special world and the eleventh world in Super Mario 3D World. It is unlocked after clearing Broken Blue Bully Belt in World Mushroom.

World Crown (called Crown World on Miiverse) is the fourth and final special world and the twelfth and final world overall in Super Mario 3D World. It is unlocked after every Green Star and stamp are collected as well as getting the golden flag by reaching the top of the Goal Pole for every level.
