Power-Ups

The Red Star is an item that appears only in Super Mario Galaxy. It resembles a red Grand Star and holds the power of the Red Lumas, one of whom first gives Mario or Luigi the Red Star in the Gateway Galaxy. It transforms them into Flying Mario or Flying Luigi respectively, who have the ability to fly through the air, similar to Wing Mario from Super Mario 64.

The Rainbow Star is an item that appears in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2; it is the Super Mario Galaxy equivalent of the Super Star, used to prevent confusion between Super Stars and Power Stars. When collected, it transforms Mario into Rainbow Mario (or Luigi into Rainbow Luigi), causing him to become rainbow-colored and leave a trail of light behind him whenever he runs.

The Spring Mushroom is an item in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. In the former, it is first found in the Toy Time Galaxy and later reappears in the Matter Splatter Galaxy, as well as during the Beach Bowl Galaxy's Purple Coin challenge. It resembles a metallic mushroom with a spring-like top. When obtained, it wraps a spring around Mario or Luigi, turning them into Spring Mario or Spring Luigi, respectively.

Fire Flowers are a power-up that are obtainable in many games in the Mario franchise, originating from Super Mario Bros. They can be found inside blocks (mostly ? Blocks) that normally contain Super Mushrooms if the player is already in their Super form (or in later games any other powered-up form), and obtaining one transforms the player into their Fire form, allowing them to throw fireballs. The Ice Flower is the polar opposite of the Fire Flower.

Ice Flowers are a power-up item in the Mario franchise. When obtained, he becomes Ice Mario and can hurl out Ice Balls from his hands that can freeze many enemies during gameplay. This power-up appeared in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and New Super Mario Bros. U among other appearances in other series, having the same function, except in Super Mario Galaxy, where Mario or Luigi gains a different ability. They are the icy counterparts of Fire Flowers.

The Boo Mushroom is a type of Mushroom that appeared in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 and turns Mario into Boo Mario or Luigi into Boo Luigi. It is a white mushroom with a Boo-like face. It is the least used power-up in Super Mario Galaxy, found only in the Ghostly Galaxy, Sand Spiral Galaxy, and the Boo's Boneyard Galaxy. It is used only once in Super Mario Galaxy 2, in the Boo Moon Galaxy.

The Bee Mushroom is a yellow mushroom with brown stripes on the cap which acts as a power-up in Super Mario Galaxy and its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2. The mushroom is first found in the Honeyhive Galaxy after collecting a ? Coin. It is also found in Super Mario Galaxy 2 in the Honeybloom Galaxy.
