Roadwork
Roadwork is a novel by Stephen King, published in 1981 under the pseudonym Richard Bachman as a paperback original. It was collected in 1985 in the hardcover omnibus The Bachman Books, which is no longer in print. However, three of the four novels in that collection - Roadwork, The Long Walk, and The Running Man - have since been reprinted as standalone titles.

Book Review: Roadwork by Stephen King | ByMarlida
First of all, I'm not saying that this is a bad book. I don't think it is. When you read about it, it sounds really exciting and I've read a little bit about it. And one day, I will finish it. I'm 100% sure of that. But right now, I just can't.

Sharp Pencil: Stephen King: Roadwork (as Richard Bachman) (1981)
Like King's other works of the period, there is also paranoia regarding the government, a loss of faith in civilization, and the casual dehumanization of the individual set against a society that is (allegedly) progressing.

Devouring Texts: Devouring Stephen King (as Richard Bachman): Roadwork
I'm rarely surprised when a Stephen King book being good, but after the last two Richard Bachman books I read (Rage and The Long Walk) were found wanting somewhat, I didn't really have high expectations for Roadwork.

Roadwork King's (Forgotten) Redemption | Nathan Holic
So, after being massively disappointed by Stephen King's attempt at serving notice as a "literary writer" with "Lisey's Story" (on the heels of reading the modest disappointment "Duma Key"), I started to wonder about my own fascination with and defense of King as a writer.

Stephen King Reviewed: Roadwork (1981)
Roadwork, my least favourite of the novels in The Bachman Books, is a rather over-earnest examination of repressed grief. Set against the backdrop of the US energy crisis of the 1970s, the plot follows Barton George Dawes, a 40-year-old man, as his life falls apart over the course of a 3-month period.

On Roadwork: The Postmodern Stephen King Masterpiece You've Never Read
Today, Stephen King’s 55th novel, Finders Keepers, will be published by Scribner. I expect the book will be a bestseller, and King’s name will be in the press even more than usual between its publication and the June 25 premiere of the third season of Under The Dome, a television series based on his novel, and for which he’s an executive producer.
