The museum combines historic exhibits drawn from the University's vast collections with new and changing, multimedia exhibitions. Highlights include Harvard’s famed Blaschka Glass Flowers and Sea Creatures in Glass, New England Forests in the Zofnass Gallery and Marine Life in the Putnam Family Gallery. The museum’s historic Great Mammal Hall displays three huge whale skeletons suspended from the ceiling above bison and a 15-foot tall giraffe. Explore a timeline of our planet's history, as well as some 3,000 rare minerals and gemstones in the Earth & Planetary Sciences gallery.

The museum is physically connected to the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at 26 Oxford Street. One admission grants visitors access to both museums. In December 2012, Harvard announced a new consortium, the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture, whose members are the Harvard Museum of Natural History, the Semitic Museum, the Peabody Museum, and the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments.
