A House defense spending bill would provide $15 million to study plans for a Space Force rather than funding the establishment of the military branch as President Trump requested.

Space Force is More Important Than Space Command

On June 18, 2018, President Donald Trump directed the Pentagon to begin planning for Space Force: a 6th independent military service branch to undertake missions and operations in the rapidly evolving space domain. The U.S. Space Force would be the first new military service in more than 70 years, following the establishment of the U.S. Air Force in 1947.

The House Armed Services Committee will debate a new military branch for space as part of the 2020 defense policy bill.

The proposal focuses on reducing the bureaucracy of creating a new space service.

The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved a Space Force, but it differs from the version put forth by the White House.
