living richly tip no. 4: start a collection
Will I lose cool points if I told you that I had a stamp collection when I was younger? I can still smell the acid-free pages now if I close my eyes. My collection kicked off when my Great Uncle Victor sent me a bunch of stamps from his wordly travels.

Learning, Laughing and Growing at We All Grow Summit
It already feels like weeks have passed since heading to Los Angeles for We All Grow Summit, but in actuality it’s only been less than two weeks! I’m guessing it’s because since leaving the gorgeous Long Beach setting of the Hotel Maya, I’ve been to Arkansas and New York City but I’m making a concerted effort to document my experience before time and memories escape me.

Getting Healthy with Nava Health & Vitality Center: The Beginning
I’ve tried it all. Counting points; meal plans: low carb, no-carb, paleo, Atkins; 5K races, Zumba classes, power yoga, hot yoga, walking – and my excess 50lbs just would not budge. Imagine the frustrating days (and nights) of ill-fitting clothes, bathing suit cover ups and forsaken foods because of my weight struggle.

radio silence
Whew! Spring is always a busy time of year but the past few weeks have been cray cray for me, hence my radio silence on the blog. Really, Mommy-ing has been the primary focus of my time, what with end-of-school plays and concerts and ceremonies and field trips.

Things To Do: April
I hope everyone had a lovely and reflective Easter Sunday! Ours was especially lovely because we didn’t do much of anything other than relaxing with family. The kids had a sleepover with their cousins and spent the day egg hunting and playing outside because it was a clear, sunshine-filled day.

On Passing Down Pieces of Me: French, Sorrel, and a Side of Guilt
This past week I took a trip to Haiti to visit local artisans focused on rebuilding their communities through economic growth. Because French is the official second language (Kreyol is the first), I got a chance to brush up on my long-forgotten French from my childhood.

Things To Do: February
I have the smartest mentees. Mattie James over at Mattieologie is one of them and I always chuckle to myself at the irony of it all because I constantly sweat her steez. Take this Things To Do template, for example. I love the idea of accountability AND I’m always game for a pretty piece of stationery – paper or digital.

living richly recommendation no. 3: never stop learning {sponsored}
One day last spring I wrote a Facebook post something to the effect of: "There’s this mom in the parent waiting area at the Tae Kwon Do studio sharing information with other parents about everything from family friendly neighborhoods to kid-friendly hair salons to what blogs to read for information on easy dinner ideas. She’s so annoying." Of course, I was talking about me.

The Special Privilege of Attending an HBCU
It’s been 17 years, but I still remember the royal blue package and colorful African emblem on the Howard University School of Law (HUSL) application. Something about just the application itself let me know that this place was special and was where I was meant to go.

my "get right" plan to kick off 2015
It’s the first full week of the new year and the Internet streetz are all abuzz with motivational quotes and inspiring images and the usual rah-rah-rah. Here’s the thing – I’m determined to make this year different. I haven’t come up with resolutions or my One Word for the year or Personal Theme, not because there’s anything wrong with those approaches but, because, I know me and, at the the end of the day, my number one obstacle is consistency.

An Encore of ‘Justice Fergie’s Happy Holiday Countdown’ #HolidayResponsibly
It truly doesn’t make any sense that, for many, The Holidays are synonymous with Stress. I mean, isn’t it the time of year when we come together with family and celebrate love and peace? Several years ago, after being caught up in the holiday frenzy, I realized that our condition is largely self-inflicted.

5 Tips for Getting Back to Life When You’re Thrown for a Loop
I’m not a brain surgeon or a humanitarian worker or a teacher. Most days, I’m writing blog posts or working on marketing campaigns or planning an event. So this morning, when I woke up to bloggers friends’ posts on social media that they felt lame writing about lipstick or family meals or Black Friday deals on their blogs as scheduled, I totally understood where they were coming from.
