On the 24th of February 1981 Lady Diana became engaged to Charles the Prince of Wales. The ring, a 12-carat oval Ceylon sapphire surrounded by 14 14 solitaire diamonds set in 18-carat white gold, is now the engagement ring of Princess Kate Middleton and Prince William- at the time of Princess Diana's death the ring was valued around £250,000 .
