Humboldt University Berlin

Two hundred years ago, in 1810, Wilhelm von Humboldt's vision of a new type of university became reality. The newly founded Prussian alma mater was the first to introduce the unity of research and teaching, to uphold the ideal of research without restrictions and to provide a comprehensive education for its students. These principles of Wilhelm von Humboldt and a select group of contemporaries soon became general practice throughout the world. A new era of university and academic research had begun.

The international profile of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is characterized not only by the breadth and depth of its international cooperation in research and teaching with partners abroad. The internationality of the researchers and students is equally evident: Around 33,000 students, 16% of whom are international students, are currently able to benefit from the ideal conditions of the Berlin site and the advantages of the traditionally grown Humboldt University. In addition, about 420 professors and more than 2,000 scientific staff are researching and teaching at our university, about 14% of whom come from abroad. These figures underscore the excellent reputation the Humboldt University enjoys around the world.

The Humboldt University of Berlin (German: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, abbreviated HU Berlin) is one of Berlin's oldest universities, founded on 15 October 1811[5] as the University of Berlin (Universität zu Berlin) by the liberal Prussian educational reformer and linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt. The Humboldt university model has strongly influenced other European and Western universities.
