Penguin Fractions: Exploring Basic Fraction Concepts is a collection of mini-lessons, activities, and math center games to help students explore basic fraction concepts using penguin-themed materials. The concepts covered in this resource include learning to identify and name fractions, matching fraction bars with fractions in number and word form, understanding equivalent fraction concepts, and identifying fractions on a number line. The activities are meant to supplement regular hands-on instruction, and to provide opportunities for students to have fun while practicing fraction skills.

Beginning Fraction Concepts Assessment Pack is a collection of paper-and-pencil tests for assessing a variety of basic fraction concepts. Simplify and Snap is an engaging and effective task card math review game for simplifying fractions. Students can play the game with a partner, in math centers, or in cooperative learning teams. To play the game, students flip over fraction cards and try to simplify them. If they are correct, they earn a "snap cube" and try to create the tallest tower.

These fraction task cards can be used with a variety of active engagement learning games for partners or teams, in math centers, or even with a whole-class review. These cards do not have multiple choice answers which will encourage kids use their fraction knowledge to solve the problems rather than guessing the answers. One recording page has room for 32 answers, but if that’s too many for your class, you can use the recording page with 24 answer spaces. These task cards are aligned with the 3rd grade CCSS, but they can be used for a review in 4th and 5th grade.
