Versatile California standout Lamar Jackson joins the Huskers’ 2016 freshman class after being regarded as one of the nation’s top high school defensive backs.The 6-3, 195-pound Jackson was a standout on both sides of the ball for Coach Mike Johnson at Franklin High School in Elk Grove, Calif. As a senior, Jackson helped the Wildcats to a 7-5 record and a trip to the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section football playoffs. Jackson saw action at quarterback, throwing for 544 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 664 yards and nine touchdowns, including a 97-yard scoring scamper. On defense, Jackson made 28 tackles and had a pass breakup as teams often avoided him in the passing game.
