The son of Mary Lourdes and Kenneth Newby, Marcus was born on July 7, 1994. He is majoring in ethnic studies and was named to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the spring of 2015. Newby was twice named to the Brook Berringer and Tom Osborne Citizenship Teams for his outreach work, which included volunteering time with Uplifting Athletes, Men with Dreams and local hospital and school outreach events.
