David Bowie was born David Robert Jones on January 8, 1947. He passed away January 10, 2016. Though he began his musical career in the early 1960s as a member of a few blues bands, his first hit didn't come until 1969's "Space Oddity," which was released in time with the moon landing. The 1972 release "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" was Bowie's breakthrough album and involved the creation of his first of several alter egos: the fashion-forward, androgynous Ziggy Stardust. Several hit albums, including "Aladdin Sane" (1973), "Young Americans" (1975), and "Let's Dance" (1983), followed in the next decades. Throughout the course of his career, which also included acting in movies such as "Labyrinth," Bowie was heralded as a visionary.
