It's always a worry when the US remake a UK show (and vice-versa), but with creator Paul Abbott's involvement, the Showtime take on Channel 4's Shameless is one of the notable exceptions. The first 3 eps have all followed the UK show very closely. Whether this continues is to be seen, but at least they've made a faithful start to develop from. As I look back at the third season of Shameless - which came to a close last night on TV2 - my thinking is divided into two main lines of thought: where is the show going to go from here, and is it possible that the American version of Shameless is now better than the UK original?

Since premiering in 2004 in the U.K., Shameless has since become a hit show in the U.S. after its premiere on Showtime. The second version of the series premiered in 2011, but has followed the plot and characters of the first series pretty closely so far. The plot of the two shows centers around a family living in poverty, whose members are forced to deal with their constantly drunk father, Frank Gallagher, the head of the family.
