‘Superman III’: Rewatching 30 Years Later
Time has not been kind to Superman III. The first film was epic. The second was fun. The third is neither. To be fair, it’s not an absolute disaster, like Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Superman III is basically the answer to the question “What would happen if we put Superman and Richard Pryor in the same movie?” Again, as a nine year old, I liked the answer to that question very much.

Superman III | Common Sense Media
Parents need to know that Richard Pryor's Gus Gorman is as much of the main character in this movie as Superman. Therefore, expect some of the "loveable" con-artist antics that made Pryor famous in his R-rated films, including drunkenness, theft, avoiding honest work, and even letting a swear word slip out. It's all suitably rendered PG-mild, though.

Superman III Movie Review & Film Summary (1983) | Roger Ebert
"Superman III" is the kind of movie I feared the original "Superman" would be. It's a cinematic comic book, shallow, silly, filled with stunts and action, without much human interest. What's amazing is that the first two Superman movies avoided that description, creating a fantasy with a certain charm. They could have been manipulative special-effects movies, but they were a great deal more. With this third one, maybe they've finally run out of inspiration.

Superman III (1983) - Rotten Tomatoes
The Man of Steel (Christopher Reeve) takes on a megalomaniacal businessman (Robert Vaughn) who is using a dopey hacker (Richard Pryor) to help him take on the world in this third entry in the big-budget, special effects-laden series. This one places more emphasis on humor than adventure.
