Ned Flanders

Wife Maude; sons Rod and Todd. Puritanical religious zealot and next door neighbor to the Simpsons. Takes everything Homer throws at him and still turns the other cheek. Has a 200 channel TV satellite system but only two are unlocked to avoid exposing his kids to Itchy & Scratchy and The Fonz. Once fostered Bart, Lisa and Maggie when Homer & Marge were deemed unfit for parenting by social services. Runs the "Leftorium" at Springfield Mall. Says: "Okeley, dokeley neglecterinos!" and "This is a dilly of a pickle."

In an age of quadruple-tracked crushing riffs and an almost Borgesian multiplicity of obscure time signatures, it can be pretty hard to stand out as a metal band. You need a USP, and Phoenix band Okilly Dokilly have a very specific one - their name, songs, and outfits are themed around friendly Springfield neighbour Ned Flanders. My spell check is intent on correcting ‘Dokilly’ to ‘docilely’, but docile they are not, with their music revolving around crunchy, lo-fi guitar and shrill, lurching synth.

Nedward "Ned" Flanders is the Simpson family's extremely religious next "diddly-door" neighbor. He is a genuinely well-meaning good-natured person, and is one of the few in Springfield to whom that description applies. Though firmly religious, he can be timid and something of an easy pushover. He thoroughly worships God and strictly follows the Bible as literally as possible and is easily shocked when challenged on any point of dogma. He also owns the Leftorium and a home business, Flancrest Enterprises, which makes religious hook rugs. He also works as a member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Nedward "Ned" Flanders, Jr. is a recurring fictional character in the animated television series The Simpsons. He is voiced by Harry Shearer, and first appeared in the series premiere episode "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire". He is the good-natured, cheery next-door neighbor to the Simpson family and is generally loathed by Homer Simpson. A devout Evangelical Christian with an annoyingly perfect family, he is among the friendliest and most compassionate of Springfield's residents and is generally considered a pillar of the Springfield community.
