At a whopping 1.6 million acres (2,500 sq mi), the Mojave Trails National Monument dwarfs the other two national monuments created by decree of President Obama on February 12, 2016. This vast area links Joshua Tree National Park with the Mojave National Preserve, creating a land bridge of safety for migrating wildlife such as the desert bighorn sheep.

Protecting a huge 2,500 square kilometers (1.6 million acres), Mojave Trails National Monument is the largest of the three California desert national monuments established by President Barack Obama in February 2016, and also the largest national monument in the contiguous U.S.
