A coalition wants to create the Ocmulgee National Historical Park to protect a region with 17,000 years of Native American history and meaning.

The monument is located in central Georgia, U.S., on the Ocmulgee River in the eastern outskirts of Macon. The monument was authorized in 1934 and established in 1936,

Step back in time to enjoy the beauty of Ocmulgee with one of the many activities offered: - Explore the continent's only Earth Lodge and Early Mississippian temple mounds - View downtown Macon from the top of the Great Temple Mound - Immerse yourself in a wetlands environment by taking a stroll on our boardwalk - step back in time through the wilderness of the Ocmulgee River floodplain on the River Trail - Bicycle on the park road - Contemplate Georgia's "Fall Line" environment along Walnut Creek - Visit the site of the only two Civil War Battles fought in Macon - Picnic on the grounds at shade covered picnic tables - Browse the museum -The gift shop includes pottery replicas, Native American inspired jewelry, fresh clay for crafts and a great selection of books on the Native American history of Middle Georgia.
