Sick Remedies

The months after each of my boys were born were some of the hardest in my life. Some Boy had colic, Sidekick had allergies and I had postpartum depression. At one point it got so severe that I was hospitalized. Someday I may have healed enough from that experience to share it with you.

Oh, my poor sweet little man. Flu season hit him already. It hit him hard.

We’ve all been there. Barreling through life, checking off deadlines, meeting expectations, kicking butt and taking numbers when all of the sudden…No. This is not happening. I’m not getting sick. I can’t be.

We’ve been up to our ears in cold symptoms around here. Literally. It’s the same thing every time: everyone gets a cold, which inevitably turns into a sinus infection, which invariably settles into an ear infection. No fun. So we’ve been using a bunch of natural cold remedies to help stop the progression in its tracks. Here are the tried-and-true natural cold remedies that work for our family.

We made it approximately three days into fall before the kids got sick. Why is it so hard to keep kids healthy? What IS it with children’s propensity to harvest all the germs? We’ve all been holed up on the couch for days on end, and it’s been a real struggle for me with a ton of travel on my plate and a sinus infection that just won’t quit.

I mentioned awhile back that I started this year off with a brutal case of pneumonia – and a fun little bout of bronchitis to go along with it! During that month-long nightmare, I heard more random myths about sickness than I ever care to recall.

We shared awhile back about our visit to the hospital with Minion for RSV (the worst day ever), but we haven’t told you much about the aftermath. In total I spent 10 days with a sick baby, followed by 13 days with a sick toddler and preschooler. I learned that while it’s scarier for infants to get sick, in a way it’s easier because they don’t fight treatment. Trying to get kids to take medicine? Strong-willed, obstinate and opinionated kids? That’s a challenge that takes DETERMINATION.
