TommyLog – The Chest of Scarves
Hey Kids it’s Dad, and for today’s TommyLog I want to talk to you about an email I received. The email was from a dear friend. Over the years she’s accumulated a lot of scarves. Beautiful woven silk scarves. She wants to put these scarves to good use. She has a friend who is battling cancer. The scarves could go to good use. So what my friend did is build a “chest of scarves.” Along with a book on how to tie scarves, this chest filled with beautiful scarves will help this lady going through cancer feel beautiful again.

TommyLog – Can I Pick Your Brain??!?!
Hey Kids, it’s dad. And for today’s TommyLog I want to talk to you about people who use the expression “can I pick your brain.” Few things get me as worked up. Someone who wants to “pick my brain” is just a taker. Stay away from people who are “takers.” You want to be around people who are givers — people who freely give their time to help others, and don’t expect anything in return. People like my friend Kelly or my friend Marc. They are givers. They have the entrepreneurial spirit and want to help see other succeed.

Thanking the People Who Make You Great!
Nothing makes you feel better than giving thanks to the co-workers who make your life great! I have been focusing more time on gratitude and this was my way of giving back to those who made my daily life so amazing. I know I missed a few of my co-workers, I’m sorry. That doens’t make you any less important. You all played a role in my life.

TommyLog – When Tragedy Strikes – Show Them You Care
Hey Kids it’s Dad, and for today’s TommyLog I want to talk about how you handle tragedy. I have a really great friend in Utah. She is a counselor at a junior high school. Over the weekend one of her students was killed in a tragic accident. Today she has to go to school and clean up the mess. There will be lots of tears, it will be lots of questions. There will be loads of opportunities to try to help. I know she is at a loss of words to know what to say. I know I certianly would be. I think that is natural. Sometimes we just don’t know what to say. There certainly no Hallmark cards to fit in just particular situation. “I’m sorry that your friend got hit by a car on Halloween.” Not to be callous., but you’re not gonna find cards like that.

Be the Answer to Someone’s Prayer
Last Friday was a total rotten day at work. Do not pass go do not collect $200 rotten. I was home and it was about 7:30 in the evening and I wanted to go get Culver’s for dinner. As I’m driving to Culver’s sun roof open and XM radio turned up high—trying to forget my awful day, I saw a family stranded on the side of the road. They car had broken down. I immediately felt a prompting to do a u-turn and go and see who I could help.

TommyLog – Paying it Forward – Blue Harbor Style
While eating dinner, we were approached by this elderly gentleman holding some hand crafted wooden toys — he gave one to Drew. Drew was just so excited to see this wooden helicopter. I could see this man had a red gym bag and it looked to be full of wooden toys. He proceeded to go around the restaurant handing out wooden toys to all the little girls and boys in the place. WOW oh WOW! This guy was just awesome.

TommyLog – We Need A Lot More Bobs Around Here
Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet master PGA Teacher Bob Burns from Appleton, WI. I listened and was in awe the difference he is making without beloved wounded veterans. Bob helps teach vets who have been injured in the line of duty how to golf. Not just how to golf, but how to overcome things that their services of the country has taken away from them, like a lost limb or joint.

TommyLog – Making A Difference – Johnny The Bagger
Today I had a great training session with my main training buddy Matt from NWTC. In his class he showed the always relevant video called “johnny the Bagger” Johnny is a boy with down syndrome and worked for a grocery store. He wanted to make a difference so he started putting inspirational messages into each bag he helped check out. What an amazing video and well worth the watch. What can we do to make a difference?
