Like many great entrepreneurial dreams, it all started in the garage. With the objective of having some good beer for less money, Kalen Doge and a friend started brewing beer in Kalens garage. Everyone liked the beer and the more he brewed the more popular he became. Brewing was more fun than any other job Kalen had ever had so he decided to open Broken Horn Brewing in his home town of McCall, ID in August of 2013. With an annual production of appx. 500 barrels, you can find Broken Horn brews on tap at the brewery taproom as well as on tap at select McCall locations. Current craft brews on tap include: Sturgeon Tale Ale, Initial Attack IPA, Sasquatch Stout, Pin Up Porter and Hells Canyon Jalapeño.What does the future hold for Broken Horn? Selling a lot more beer! Kalen would like to do cans in the future while continuing to grow locally and possibly into the Boise market. Along the way, Kalen has learned that there is always more to learn about brewing and you can’t make everyone happy. “Some people will love your beer, some won’t. That’s why it’s so great to see so many breweries today, there’s good beer for everyone.” When he’s not brewing beer, you’ll find Kalen hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. The name Broken Horn is a nod to an old family hunting story, if you want the details on that you’ll have to ask Kalen.
