ABOUT | Modern Brewery
Born and Raised in St. Louis, Beamer graduated from Lindbergh High School (2004) before attending Harvard University (class of 2008). There began his love for the creation of beer.
While at Harvard, he was afforded the opportunity to craft his own curriculum relative to brewing and beer. These classes included Brewing Science, History of Brewing Civilizations, Science of Beer and Food Pairing. To complement these studies, he spent a semester as an intern with Harpoon Brewery, gaining hands-on experience in the QA/QC lab, brew house and cellar. Also during his collegiate career, Beamer assisted in the opening (and later, managed), Harvard’s first on-campus pub, The Cambridge Queen’s Head. Here he implemented the “Beer School” program, a monthly seminar at the pub to share his passion and knowledge with his fellow beer enthusiasts and classmates. Each session covered a specific topic pertaining to the brewing industry, featuring guest speakers Sam Calagione (Dogfish Head), Steve Hindy (Brooklyn Brewery), Jim Koch (Sam Adams), Jamie Schier (Harpoon), and more.
After graduating in 2008 Beamer worked on the sales and distribution team for Harpoon Brewery before heading back home to work at Schlafly’s under Dan Kopman (CEO/Founder). He then moved west where he worked at Hudson Vineyards, one of the premier vineyards in California. Beamer continued his education completing the Master Brewers Program at the University of California-Davis, studying under revered professors, Dr. Michael Lewis and Charles Bamforth. He graduated from the program with an international certification in both Brewing Methods and Fermentation Science.
