Bridge and Tunnel Brewery is a small scale micro brewery raising the flag of locally craft brewed beer in Queens New York.

Bridge and Tunnel Brewery is a Queens based nano-scale micro-brewery, launched by brewer/proprietor: Rich Castagna. At the present time, the brewery is operating as a one-man brewing operation, with the help from Rich's wife Lisa with the various additional tasks necessary to keep a brewery afloat.

Bridge and Tunnel Brewery is starting off on a nano-scale; brewing 1.5 barrel batches. Sixtel kegs turn over quickly, so if you run into one of these beers, enjoy it while it lasts. The beer names are aimed at capturing aspects of the outer boroughs, and New York City in general. Being born and raised here in this city, I find a lot of the old character and attitude that was once widespread is being lost from memory. The history of a place is not only the things that have happened, but the people who have populated an area. Some of the inpirations that I have for beer names come from people, and/or small events that happened in the boroughs that I think are interesting to revisit.

The brewing rig consists of 3 stainless steel kettles (Hot Liquor Tank, Mash Tun, Boil Kettle) each with a 55 gallon holding capacity. The system can churn out roughly 45 gallons per batch - or about 9 sixtels (1/6th barrel sankes). The kettles themselves are clad in oak, which is particularly helpful for the mash tun, as the oak cladding acts as an amazing insulator (thanks to the neighbor who passed on all his oak wood flooring).
